Terms of Service

Last updated: September 8, 2026

These terms govern your use of this website. By browsing it, watching a talk, subscribing to the newsletter or sending us a story, you accept them.

If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Who we are, and what this site is

This website is operated by Swayam Talks. It exists to publish our talks, series, podcasts and events, and to tell you about what we are doing next.

It is a place to read and watch. There are no visitor accounts to create, nothing is sold on these pages, and you do not have to identify yourself to use any of it.

Using this website

You may read, watch and share anything published here for your own personal, non-commercial use, and you may link to any page on this site freely.

You agree not to:

  • copy, re-publish, sell or redistribute our talks, videos, text or images, in whole or in part, without our written permission;
  • download, re-upload or re-host our videos anywhere else — they are published on YouTube and play here through YouTube's own player;
  • use automated means to scrape, harvest or bulk-download this site or the material on it;
  • attempt to gain access to the administration area, any account, or any part of the site or its servers you have not been given access to;
  • interfere with the site's operation, or use it to distribute anything unlawful, misleading, abusive or harmful.

Our content and who owns it

The talks, series, podcasts, photographs, artwork, page text and the Swayam Talks name and logo are owned by us or by the people who licensed them to us, and are protected by copyright and trade mark law.

Quoting a short passage with credit and a link back is fine, and we are glad when people do it. Anything beyond that — reproducing a talk, using our footage in another production, or using our name or logo — needs our written permission first. Write to us at the address below and ask; we usually say yes.

Speakers keep the rights to their own words and ideas. A talk appearing on this site does not transfer anything of theirs to you.

YouTube videos and embedded players

Our videos are hosted on YouTube and play inside our pages through YouTube's embedded player. Information about them — titles, thumbnails, durations and view counts — comes from YouTube API Services.

When you play a video here you are also using YouTube, and the YouTube Terms of Service apply to you as well as ours. Google's handling of the data that passes through the player is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

We do not control YouTube, and we cannot promise that a video will always be available or that the player will always work. Where a video's owner has disabled embedding, we say so on the page rather than showing you a broken player.

Stories you send us

When you suggest a story through this site, you confirm that you are entitled to send us what you have written, and that it is truthful as far as you know.

You keep ownership of what you send. By sending it, you give us permission to read it, store it, discuss it internally and consider it for a talk. We will not publish your submission as it stands, or use your name or contact details publicly, without asking you first.

If you suggest someone other than yourself, please only send details that person would be comfortable with us having. We may contact them.

We are under no obligation to act on a suggestion, and we may decide not to pursue one without giving a reason.

Events and tickets

Event details published here — dates, venues, line-ups and prices — are correct as far as we know at the time of publishing, but they can change. An event may be rescheduled, relocated or cancelled, and a listed speaker may not appear.

Tickets are not sold on this website. Where a "Book now" button appears it takes you to whoever is selling tickets for that event, and your purchase is a contract with them under their terms, not with us through this site. Refunds, seat allocation and entry conditions are governed by those terms and by the venue.

Availability and changes

We try to keep this site available and its information accurate, but we do not guarantee either. Pages may be taken down, changed or become temporarily unavailable for maintenance, or because a service we rely on is unavailable.

We may add to, change or remove any part of this website, including talks and events, at any time and without notice.

This site is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties about it — express or implied — including any that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose.

Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not permit us to limit.

Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of this site — including lost profits, lost data, or loss arising because the site or a video was unavailable.

The views expressed in a talk are those of the speaker. Publishing a talk is not an endorsement of everything said in it, and nothing on this site is professional advice — medical, legal, financial or otherwise. Do not act on it as if it were.

Privacy

What we collect and what we do with it is set out separately in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute arising from them or from your use of this website is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at Pune, Maharashtra.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms from time to time. The date at the top of the page tells you when they were last changed, and using the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
